About Us
From Güstrow to Melbourne — Our Story
When the Wall came down and Germany became one again, a new kind of freedom was in the air. In the northern town of Güstrow, the Radtke family decided to make something of it. In 1990, Radtke Catering began with a single food van and a simple belief: that good food and an open grill bring people together.
In 1992 came our first traditional BBQ unit, and with it a period of rapid growth and expansion. From private functions to large-scale festivals and concerts, we made our name feeding the crowds, one grill at a time. A proud highlight came in 2003 at the International Flower and Garden Show, where we served visitors from no fewer than five stands. Over two decades of business in Germany, we grew into a family caterer that people across the country trusted at some of their biggest moments.
But every good story needs a new chapter. In 2010, we packed up our equipment and our German know-how and moved to the other side of the world: Melbourne, Australia. Trading as Mr. Bratwurst, we brought a taste of home to a brand-new crowd, and Australia took to it fast.
You may have already found us at some of the country’s greatest events: the roar of the Formula 1, AFL game days at the MCG and GMHBA Stadium, rugby and soccer nights at AAMI Park, concerts of every kind, the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo and Farmworld. And the list goes on. Wherever the crowds gather, the smell of a proper German bratwurst is never far away.
In 2014, we planted permanent roots with our own stand at Prahran Market, and in 2026, we proudly opened our second home at South Melbourne Market.
Three decades, two countries, one family, and one simple promise: authentic German sausage, done the right way.
Willkommen. Welcome to Mr. Bratwurst.
